The study program Nursing Care (first cycle professional degree program) is a higher education professional study program compliant with the EU Directive 2005/36/EC, on the recognition of the Bologna Declaration, the Slovenian education system structure, the Higher Education Act of the Republic of Slovenia and the standards and criteria of the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. The program is based on generally available on-line guidelines of international associations such as:

• Standards for pre-registration nursing education (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2010–NMC, 2010): national UK standards which enjoy international recognition;
• Strategic directions for strengthening nursing and midwifery services 2011–2015 (World Health Organization-WHO, 2010);
• Global standards for the initial education of professional nurses and midwives (WHO, 2010);
• ICN Nursing Care Continuum—Framework and Competencies (International Council of Nurses (ICN), 2008);
• Nursing and Midwifery Human Resources for Health. Global standards for the initial education of professional nurses and midwives (WHO, 2009).
