The student:
 

  • becomes familiar with current approaches to infection control in hospitals
  • learns about  nurses’ role in pevention and control of nosocomial infections
  • gains undestanding of the theoretical bases of nursing procedures with reference  to infection control
  • acquires knowledge and skill in basic hygienic procedures used in nursing care  in accordance with professional guidelines
  • becomes familiar with the organization of infection control in hospitals, legislation governing this activity and inspection services in this area
  • gains understanding of the risks of infection in hospitals, other health care institutions and the community (community nursing, home care)
  • becomes familiar with basic methods for gathering and assessing  epidemiological data on  nosocomial infections
  • learns about cleaning, decontamination, disinfection and sterilization
