Subject-specific competences: ETHICS AND PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING CARE
  • students acquire competencies in cultural ethics and nursing values. They obtain the knowledge and skills to practice and respect human rights, including:
  • recognizes characteristics of philosophic thoughts during history;
  • acquires knowledge about nursing care philosophy;
  • is introduced to the basic ethical disciplines;
  • becomes familiar with basic ethical work, values, points of view;
  • finds out about the theory of ethics, ethical concepts, models, methods, principles;
  • recognizes codes and declarations on ethics and their implementation in practice;
  • gains knowledge about usage of ethical concepts in nursing practice;
  • recognizes the differences between traditional and modern ethical approaches;
  • recognizes problems of ethical decision-making and ethical dilemmas;
  • learns how to recognize professional and moral values in the team;
  • gains knowledge of the models of ethical decision-making for assessing and solving ethical dilemmas in clinical practice;
  • becomes familiar with and understands the concepts of ethical care;
  • adopts standards of professional behaviour, adopts behavioural standards of the Codex and usage of declarations, conventions;
  • recognizes modern trends in ethics and nursing ethics.

HEALTHCARE LEGISLATION
  • recognizes the basic principles of the legal system;
  • gains knowledge of the rights and obligations of healthcare professionals in preventive activities, nursing care and health care provision;
  • learns about the concepts of professional error, abandoning, self-will and neglect;
  • gains knowledge about the basic concepts of criminal law, typical criminal offences in health care and the concepts of criminal responsibility, criminal procedure and sanctions;
  • gains knowledge about the common concepts of civil responsibility, reasons for responsibility, judicial practice of civil responsibility in health care, competitive responsibility, and basic issues in the civil procedure and sanctions;
  • gains knowledge about the basic concepts of labour law, ways of establishing and terminating an employment agreement, rights and responsibilities linked with employment, rights protection, and management of employment relationships in health care;
  • gains knowledge about health care and health insurance;
  • gains knowledge about retirement and invalidity insurance;
  • gains knowledge about the social care system,
  • is informed about legal procedures for enforcement of health, pension and invalidity insurance and social care, as well as judicial protection of the rights.

Assessment methods: Examination (Students have to pass the examination on Ethics and Philosophy in Nursing Care and the examination in Health Care Legislation. Both parts of the exam are converted into one grade in the ration 60% : 40%).
