Subject-specific competences: Student:
  • gains knowledge, understanding and skills to transfer theoretical knowledge into clinical practice, learns how to practically implement nursing interventions by adhering to the recording of nursing interventions;
  • becomes familiar with teamwork, the multidisciplinary approach and the responsibility to provide high-quality and safety of nursing care;
  • develops ethical competencies, ethical relationship, patients’ autonomy, responsibility towards patients ang encourages self-care. The student applies prevention, guidance and teaching in context of nursing development for different illnesses and conditions in older patients;
  • develops the capacity for integral communication, decision making and teamwork;
  • develops the knowledge and skills to implement scientific findings into evidence-based practice;
  • learns how to autonomously detect the need for nursing interventions and nursing diagnoses;
  • acquires the skills to plan and practice nursing;
  • is able to evaluate and estimate the quality of work;
  • is able to participate and help in unpredictable, critical situations and emergencies;
  • respects the confidentiality of information related to nursing and health care provision.

Knowledge and understanding:
  • recognizing biological, social, psychological and environmental risk factors that could influence health;
  • obtaining knowledge in process methodology in nursing;
  • providing quality nursing care to patients of all age groups;
  • respecting the protocols of quality models and knowing assessment mechanisms and processes for continuous quality improvement in nursing;
  • identifies the conceptual framework of nursing and its most important theoretical models;
  • follows ethical, legal and humanistic values in all nursing procedures;
  • ensures the right to privacy while respecting the confidentiality of information related to nursing interventions;
  • uses IT solutions available in health care systems.

Study obligations: Students must meet the following conditions:
  • present a valid medical certificate for conducting the work of a registered nurse;
  • be vaccinated against hepatitis B;
  • have a valid student insurance based on Articles 17 and 18 of the Health Care and Health Insurance Act for occupational injuries and diseases when participating in tasks and field work;
  • have the required protective clothing, footwear, and special equipment;
  • students can do optional clinical training in specialized areas of nursing within the curricula of the 1st and 2nd years after successfully completing the mandatory clinical training;
  • students must comply with the internal legal acts of the Faculty of Health Care Jesenice (FHCJ) for the implementation of mandatory and optional clinical training.
Assessment methods: Numerical assessment of elective clinical training (competences being assessed: professional behaviour, communication skills, cooperation, implementation of nursing interventions, documentation of nursing care at the clinical placement, health care counselling).
Students will be awarded ECTS points for conducting the entire training, meeting the requirements of the summer training and getting a passing grade.
Students must have successfully passed the subject in order to be admitted into the next year’s study program.
