Subject-specific competences:
  • Students acquire competencies for comprehensive and professional communication and effective collaboration with other colleagues in the health care team and at the interdisciplinary level;
  • Students acquire the capacity for therapeutic work with individuals, families and groups in support and counselling.
  • Students learn about the characteristics of effective communication in health care and nursing teams;
  • Students learn the methods of supportive communication with patients and others;
  • Student knows how to apply the theoretical basis of therapeutic communication and supervision as an effective method to support and help in special conflict situations and work in the clinical setting;
  • Students learn the importance of experiential learning for professional and personal development;
  • Students can reflect on the experience of working with colleagues, patients and others.

Knowledge and understanding:
Comprehension of: basic communication definitions; interpersonal communication models; different levels and views of interpersonal communication models; the social role of language and speech; communication pragmatics; understanding non-verbal communication; persuasive communication elements; emotions; main relational subjects; basic conflict dimensions in the communication process; understanding the importance of interpersonal communication among health care professionals; supportive communication characteristics; empathy; confidence in communication; communication ethics; establishing effective communication (nurse's duties; patient's duties); disruptions and misunderstandings between health care professionals and patients; understanding supervision as a method for achieving better nursing relations.
