Subject-specific competences: |
The student:
- obtains knowledge, understanding and skills to transfer theoretical knowledge into practice, learns how to implement nursing interventions according to the nursing process, together with documentation, and ensuring quality and safety;
- becomes familiar with team work, the multidisciplinary approach and assuming responsibility for provision of quality and safety of nursing;
- becomes familiar with work organization by being directly included in the nursing and medical teams;
- becomes familiar with specific aspects of nursing patients with different mental disorders;
- learns how to observe and recognize the signs and symptoms of mental disorders, learns how to assess nursing needs, formulate nursing diagnoses, and plan, implement and evaluate psychiatric nursing practice;
- develops the basic clinical competencies to independently practice therapeutic interventions in psychiatric nursing, and to support and help groups and families in the field of psychiatry and in the community;
- develops ethical competencies and values, supports patient autonomy, assumes responsibility for patients and encourages self-care by practicing prevention, guiding and teaching in the context of psychiatric nursing;
- becomes familiar with the elements of behavioural-cognitive and counselling techniques in working with patients with mental disorders;
- acquires the knowledge and skills to successfully communicate with patients, their relatives, significant others and nursing and medical team members;
- develops the knowledge and skills for implementing evidence-based practice.
Knowledge and understanding:
- recognizing the biological, social, psychological and environmental risk factors that could influence health;
- obtaining knowledge in the field of process methodology in nursing;
- providing quality nursing to patients of all ages;
- respecting the quality model protocols and being familiar with assessment mechanisms and processes to ensure continuous quality of nursing care;
- identifying the conceptual framework of nursing and its main theoretical models;
- showing ethical, legal and humanistic behaviour in all nursing processes;
- ensuring the right to privacy while respecting the confidentiality of information regarding the implementation of nursing care;
- use of ICT.

Study obligations: |
Students must meet the following conditions:
- present a valid medical certificate for conducting the work of a registered nurse;
- be vaccinated against hepatitis B;
- have a valid student insurance based on Articles 17 and 18 of the Health Care and Health Insurance Act for occupational injuries and diseases when participating in tasks and field work;
- have the required protective clothing, footwear, and special equipment;
- students can participate in optional clinical training on specialty areas of nursing within the curriculum of the 1st and 2nd years after having successfully completed the mandatory clinical training;
- students must comply with internal legal acts of the Faculty of Health Care Jesenice (FHCJ) for the implementation of mandatory and optional clinical training.

Assessment methods: |
Numerical assessment of optional clinical training (competences being assessed: professional behaviour, communication skills, cooperation, implementation of nursing interventions, documentation of nursing care at the clinical placement, health care counselling).
Students will be awarded ECTS points for conducting the entire practice, meeting the requirements of the clinical training and obtaining a passing grade. |
