International comparability of the Health care sciences doctoral study program is based in its background and design.

The program was designed in compliance with the Bologna guidelines. It comprises obligatory and elective subjects and the doctoral thesis. 

The program is interdisciplinary. The duration of the program is three years and it is accredited as a full-time or a part-time study. It is equivalent to 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System). The curriculum comprises eight obligatory and thirteen elective subjects.

Program description

The Third Cycle Bologna Health Care Sciences Study Program requires 180 ECTS, of which 150 ECTS are obtained by completing the obligatory subjects (8), 20 ECTS are acquired through elective subjects (13) and 10 ECTS are acquired by completing the doctoral dissertation.

Basic, applied and developmental research; solving the most complex scientific and professional challenges; academic work in the field of health care and cross-sector collaboration; critical assessment of research results, development of research methods and transferring knoledge into practice; scientific research and development work in the field of health care as a system, medical treatment, nursing care, health promotion and health care management; conneting the academic and the clinical environment or another environment in which the profession operates with its needs and challenges.

Student obligations

Students complete the third cycle studies once they complete all the obligations prescribed in the study program and write and successfully defend the doctoral dissertation to acquire a total of 180 ECTS.
