Kratek življenjepis

Na Ginekološki kliniki  Kliničnega centra zaposlen od 1982. Specialist  ginekologije in porodništva od  leta 1986. Leta 1988 je postal vodja oddelka za uroginekologijo na Ginekološki kliniki v Ljubljani in leta  2006 predstojnik Kliničnega oddelka za ginekologijo Ginekološke klinike. Od leta  2008 je  strokovni direktor Ginekološke klinike UKC  Ljubljana.
Podiplomski študij, smer uroginekologija zaključil na Medicinski fakulteti Sveučilišta v Zagrebu leta 1991 z magistrsko nalogo: Mikcijske motnje in urodinamske spremembe po radikalni histerektomiji. Leta 1998 je na Medicinski fakulteti Univerze v Ljubljani zagovarjal doktorsko disertacijo z naslovom: Pomen ultrazvočne preiskave v diagnostiki in zdravljenju stresne urinske inkontinence in pridobil akademski naslov doktorja znanosti s področja medicinskih ved (ginekologija).
Leta 2000 mu je Ministrstvo za zdravstvo R Slovenije podelilo naziv svetnik za aktivni prispevek na strokovnem, organizacijskem, pedagoškem in raziskovalnem področju, ter leta 2019 naziv višji zdravstveni svetnik. Leta 2017  je bil na Medicinski fakulteti Univerze v Ljubljani izvoljen v naziv redni profesor ginekologije in porodništva.

Ukvarja se z raziskovanjem novih metod kirurškega zdravljenja v ginekologiji, predvsem s stališča uvajanja minimalno invazivnega kirurškega pristopa, uroloških komplikacij po radikalnih ginekoloških operacijah in posebej z novimi načini zdravljenja nenadzorovanega uhajanja urina pri ženskah, v zadnjem času predvsem z uporabo laserske fototermalne terapije.  V rutinsko klinično prakso za zdravljenje urinske inkontinence pri ženskah je v Sloveniji  uvedel TVT operacijo in za zdravljenje povešenosti rodil  rekonstrukcijske operacije z uporabo sintetičnih mrežic.
Kot gostujoči profesor je predaval na Medicinskih fakultetah: Sarajevo, Beograd, Skoipje, Reka, Videm/Udine, Novara, Pleven, London,  Doha in Bahrein.
Je predsednik Združenja ginekologov in porodničarjev Slovenije, leta 2004 je ustanovil Društvo za uroginekologijo Slovenije in istega leta postal njegov prvi predsednik. Od leta 2007 je član upravnega odbora Slovenskega menopavznega društva, dve mandatni obdobji je bil predsednik Republiškega strokovnega kolegija za ginekologijo in porodništvo, dva mandata je bil član zdravstvenega sveta in in od leta 2015 član komisije za strokovna napredovanja pri Ministrstvu za zdravje. Od leta 2019 je predsednik Etične komisije UKC Ljubljana in zunanji član Komisije za medicinsko etiko RS.  
Je  ustanovni član The International society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG), član Mednarodnega združenja za uroginekologijo (IUGA), kjer je bil en mandat Evropski predstavnik v izvršilnem odboru. Ustanovni član MIPS in predsednik Training Committee (Mediteranean Incontinece and  Pelvic Floor Society).Generalni sekretar MIPS od decembra 2015. Od leta 2019 pa je predsednik akreditacijske komisije Evropskega združenja za uroginekologijo EUGA. Je član SZD, EBCOG, ICS, ESGE, EAGO.


Curriculum Vitae

Adolf Lukanovič has been employed by the Gynecology and Obstetrics Division at the Ljubljana University Medical Center since 1982. He has been a gynecology and obstetrics specialist since 1986. In 1988 he became the head of the division’s Urogynecology Department, and in 2006 he became the head of its Gynecology Department. Between 2008 and 2020 he was medical director of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Division at the Ljubljana University Medical Center.
    He received his master’s degree in urogynecology at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine with the thesis Mikcijske motnje in urodinamske spremembe po radikalni histerektomiji (Micturition Disorders and Urodynamic Changes after Radical Hysterectomy). In 1988 he defended his doctoral dissertation, Pomen ultrazvočne preiskave v diagnostiki in zdravljenju stresne urinske inkontinence (The Importance of Ultrasound Examination in Diagnosing and Treating Stress Urinary Incontinence), and he was awarded a medical doctorate in gynecology.
    In 2000 the Slovenian Ministry of Health conferred upon him the title of adviser for his professional, organizational, teaching, and research contributions to the field, and in 2019 he was awarded the title of senior medical adviser. In 2017 he was promoted to full professor of gynecology and obstetrics at the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine.
    Adolf Lukanovič’s research deals with new methods for surgical treatment in gynecology, especially in terms of introducing minimally invasive surgical procedures, urological complications following radical gynecological surgery, and, first and foremost, new methods of treating urinary incontinence in women, including the use of laser photothermal therapy, which has been his most recent interest. He introduced the TVT procedure into routine clinical practice for treating urinary incontinence in women in Slovenia, as well as the use of synthetic mesh in reconstructive surgery for treating pelvic organ prolapse.
    He has lectured as a visiting professor at medical schools in Sarajevo, Belgrade, Skopje, Rijeka, Udine, Novara, Pleven, London, Doha, and Bahrain.
    Adolf Lukanovič is the chairman of the Slovenian Association of Gynecologists and Obstetricians. In 2004 he founded the Slovenian Urogynecology Society and he became its first chairman the same year. Since 2007 he has been a board member of the Slovenian Menopause Society, he has served two terms as chair of the Slovenian College of Gynecology and Obstetrics, he has served two terms as a member of the medical board, and since 2015 he has been a member of the professional advancement committee at the Ministry of Health. Since 2019 he has been the chairman of the Ljubljana University Medical Center’s Ethics Committee and an external member of the Slovenian Medical Ethics Committee.
    He is a founding member of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) and a member of the International Urogynecological Association (IUGA), where he served one term as the representative for Europe on the international advisory board. He is a founding member of the Mediterranean Incontinence and Pelvic Floor Society (MIPS) and chairman of its Training Committee. He has been the general secretary of the MIPS since December 2015. Since 2019 he has been the chairman of the accreditation committee at the European Urogynaecology Association (EUGA). He is a member of the Slovenian Medical Association (SZD), European Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG), International Continence Society (ICS), European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), and European Association of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians (EAGO).
