Kratek življenjepis

Po končani Medicinski fakulteti v Ljubljani leta 1980 je opravil sekundariat in pričel z delom v Zdravstvenem domu Radovljica. Specializacijo iz splošne kirurgije je končal maja 1989 in kot specialist je nadaljeval delo v Splošni bolnišnici Jesenice in 1995 postal vodja abdominalne kirurgije. V obdobju 2002–2006 je bil strokovni direktor. Naziv primarij je prejel 2002. Že med študijem se je vključil v raziskovalno delo in prejel Prešernovo nagrado za študente. V letu 2004 je dosegel naziv magistra znanosti. Aktivno sodeluje v več strokovnih združenjih in srečanjih. Dodatno se je strokovno izpopolnjeval doma in v tujini. Bil je član Republiškega strokovnega kolegija za kirurgijo, ki mu je v letu 2004 predsedoval. Od leta 2013 je tudi specialist abdominalne kirurgije. Poseben interes ima v onkološki, laparoskopski in dnevni kirurgiji ter kakovosti v zdravstvu. 

Curriculum Vitae

I was born on 30th June 1956 in Ptuj, Slovenia. I began with the study on Medical faculty in University of Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1975. During the study I cooperated in editorial board of medical student’s periodical “Medicinski razgledi” – Medical review, where I also published first article in 1980. In last year of study, I got award for research works of students in University of Ljubljana for work “Evaluation of haemodialysis system with bicarbonate dialysate”. I graduated on 25th November 1980.

After graduation I began with probationary period in Hospital Jesenice. In 1984 I began with work at Surgical department in General hospital Jesenice. I started with specialization of general surgery in March 1984 and finished it in May 1989. As a specialist I continued to work in department of Abdominal surgery, where I am head of the department from 1995 on. From 1994 on, I am mentor for young physicians and surgical residents. In 2004 I got a master’s degree with work “Influence of department patient volume on results of operative treated patients with colorectal cancer II and III”. In 2003 I was posted as a member of State expert committee for surgery. From 2002 to 2006 I was elected for Medical director in General hospital Jesenice. From 2006 to 2010 I was elected for President of Slovenian Association of Surgeons. In 2013 I got my second specialization in abdominal surgery. From 2019 on, I’m the General director of General hospital Jesenice.
As a surgeon should analyse its work it brings me to medical informatics, where we cooperate in EU project “Primacom” and with Institute “Josef Stefan”,Ljubljana we finish the project “Ptah”- program for decision support in nosocomial infection therapy. We cooperate also in clinical project “Euricterus”.  As a department and personal we cooperate with different national and international projects within WSES (World Society of Emergency Surgery) and ESCP (European Society of ColoProctology). My special interests are in oncologic and endoscopic surgery and day surgery. We organized two conferences about ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery) in last decade.

For decades I am involved in Slovenian healthcare and patient quality and safety program. From 2009 on, I act as an active auditor for Quality management system in healthcare organizations in Slovenia and over Europe. I also perform the audits for international health care accreditation standard for hospitals. I’m an auditor for compliance of medical devices with EU legislation. I’m an active lecturer in the field of quality and safety in healthcare. I was the Head of Health section in Slovenian association for quality and excellence.

I have 25 citations in PubMed and over 190 citations in national cooperative online bibliographic system COBISS.
