Greetings from Urša Matoh in Malta

 Greetings from Malta!

It's been almost two weeks since I started my Erasmus exchange. 10.3. 2016 I flew from Venice to Malta. I found my accomodation in a dorm University Residence in Lija, which is only 10min away by bus from my clinical practice. Since the dorm provide a free shuttle service I am trying to use it. The first day of clinical practice, I met with my Coordinator for the exchange on Malta. He explained the course of my practice, handed all the paperwork and showed me around the hospital. I was also briefed by staff of the department where I begin with my clinical practice. So it's been almost two weeks of my practice on delivery suite, where I work with midwives. Among the staff, I was warmly welcomed. People are very friendly and always willing to offer assistance. They don´t take students for  additional manpower, but as individuals who want to learn as much as possible. On the ward I successfully help mothers in childbirth and observe the entire course of childbirth. I was also present on many caesarean sections. Despite the fact that most of the time they communicate in Maltese, they explain everything they do. There has been a connection between the entire staff, both midwives, doctors and cleaners, they communicate a lot among themselves and I didn´t recognize any hierarchy between them. During the work, there´s a big emphasis on proper communication with the woman in labor – to make experience as positive despite the pain and that she will be given through all the assistance and support.
Malta is otherwise highly Catholic country, which is also seen in the hospital, because almost on every step you can see a hanging cross, even have its own chapel. So far I have already seen some beautiful things of Malta, have met many people from all over the world and experienced a little nightlife.

The experience is certainly beautiful and unrepeatable!
