Subject-specific competences:
  • Students understand EBN and its importance for nursing development.
  • Students understand the connection between EBN and the process of preparing a diploma thesis.
  • Students understand the research process in all phases of the chosen research paradigm in the diploma thesis.
  • Students understand the IMRT structure used in the diploma thesis.
  • Students understand the procedures of preparing a diploma thesis and defending it. 

Knowledge and understanding:
The student:
  • becomes acquainted with the significance of evidence-based nursing;
  • gains knowledge about the evolution of evidence-based nursing;
  • gains knowledge on how to ask relevant clinical questions, find relevant evidence, critically appraise it, generate and disseminate it;
  • acquires the skills for applying research evidence into nursing practice;
  • becomes acquainted with the importance of culture for evidence-based nursing.
  • learns about the process of evidence-based nursing;
  • gains knowledge of the hierarchy of evidence;
  • gains the knowledge of models, strategies and tools for utilizing evidence-based nursing;
  • gains the knowledge of methods for generating and disseminating evidence;
  • becomes acquainted with the barriers to using evidence in nursing practice;
  • learns how to write professional articles.
Knowledge and understanding for Diploma theses:
Student:
  • is familiar with the basics of scientific research work,
  • can define the purpose and hypotheses of the research,
  • knows how to set the general goals of the research, define research questions according to the selected variables, and state the research hypotheses,
  • knows how to select appropriate and key literature (previous research results) for their thesis from articles published in magazines listed in international databases,
  • is capable of searching international databases efficiently to find relevant literature,
  • uses correct quoting and paraphrasing methods for works of other authors in the thesis disposition and the thesis itself,
  • is capable of defining a statistical population and selecting an appropriate respondent sample  according to the research topic,
  • is familiar with different research instruments  in quantitative and qualitative research and knows how to  produce an appropriate data gathering method according to the research problem,
  • is capable of making on-line questionnaire
  • gets to know PSPP/SPSS software and learns -    descriptive statistics measures (frequencies, percentages, mean values, statistical dispersion). Is acquanted with key bivariate tests 
  • gets to know the design and implementation of qualitative research;  
  • knows IMRAD structure and content of  diploma thesis chapters
  • is familiar with the most frequent ethical dilemmas in research work
  • is capable of presenting her/his work publicly and defending the obtained results.
